Reform and co-operation in the security sector

The Co-ordinator also works with border guards to enhance their capacity in combating terrorism and weapons trafficking, with due regard to international commitments. Strengthening the ability of authorities in the monitoring of financial flows to prevent money laundering and the funding of terrorism is another important area of work for the Co-ordinator that helps to improve a national risk assessment system and other regulatory mechanisms.
There is a growing urgency to ensure reliability and resilience of critical infrastructure and its protection from terrorist attacks, as stated in UN Security Resolution Resolution 2341. The Co-ordinator helps national stakeholders to address this challenge by designing methodological, legislative and regulatory frameworks to diminish risks to critically important elements of the social system, including healthcare, energy, communications, banking, and other sectors.
