Human rights

The Co-ordinator works with the security sector and law enforcement agencies to help them implement human rights-oriented approaches, helps Ukraine’s parliamentarians draft laws that safeguard individual freedoms, supports judicial reform both by participation in developing and implementing its strategy and offers training courses on human rights protection instruments to judges.
The Co-ordinator works with the Ombudsman and civil society to help build a country-wide identification system of human rights abuses, and supports monitoring to prevent torture and ill treatment in prisons and other detention facilities. To ensure the right to a fair trial in courts, the Co-ordinator, in co-operation with the Ombudsman, supports civil society in trial monitoring, providing their expertise and training on fair trial rights, methodology and building a country-wide platform of monitors.
The Project Co-ordinator works with the Education Ministry to promote human rights-based approaches in education, as well as human rights education in schools. It helps develop recommendations for schools curricula, and assists in the development and piloting of new courses that are to be further institutionalized by the Education Ministry.
