The OSCE Programme Office in Nur-Sultan in partnership with the UNECE and the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction, will organize a subregional workshop on strengthening mining/tailings safety in Kazakhstan and in Central Asian region in general. The objective of a two-day workshop is to present the final results of the tailings project in Kazakhstan, implemented since 2018 that concludes by the end of the year. The subregional workshop will be preceded by a regional consultation for Central Asia on a draft mine tailings standard (Almaty, Kazakhstan, 18-19 November 2019), co-convened by the Global Tailings Review and the Secretariat to the UNECE Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents.
