The OSCE Programme Office in Nur-Sultan in cooperation with the Public Association Karaganda Regional Ecological Museum (EcoMuseum) will organize a roundtable on environmental public hearings for some 30 representatives from government bodies, environmental NGOs, media and private sector.
Participants will review typical violations while preparing and conducting public hearings on environmental matters, discuss existing challenges in ensuring public participation and come up with recommendations on how to effectively organize public discussions in line with the Aarhus Convention principles. The roundtable is a concluding event of the six-month OSCE-supported project in Karaganda region focused on the monitoring of the environmental public hearings in the region. The OSCE-supported experts from the EcoMuseum will share guidelines on how to enhance public participation and take into account their opinion in environmental decision-making.
The event is part of the OSCE Programme Office’s longstanding efforts to advance international standards of the Aarhus Convention in Kazakhstan.
