The Office will organize an international conference entitled “Parliamentary openness and improvement of interaction of Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan (lower chamber) with civil society through the legislative process”.
The event will bring together some 45 Parliament members, representatives of the Parliament Apparatus, civil society, international organizations and academia to discuss the current law-making process in Kazakhstan, the national and international standards and mechanisms of human rights protection, the modalities of public participation in the legislative process in the Parliament of Kazakhstan, and civic engagement into public decision-making process. During the conference, national experts from non-governmental organizations and academia, as well as a representative of OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights will present their ideas, experience and recommendations.
The conference is part of the Office’s activities aimed at enhancing the work of the Parliament and strengthening its co-operation with civil society.
