The OSCE Programme Office in Astana will support a roundtable discussion to introduce legislative amendments on regulating release of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and placing them on the market in line with an amendment to the Aarhus Convention on "Public Participation in Decisions on Deliberate Release into the Environment and Placing on the Market of Genetically Modified Organisms".
Some 20 participants from the government bodies, research institutes and expert community will discuss goals and objectives of the GMO Amendment, its relationship with other international agreements, scope of application and basic requirements on decision-making procedures related to the GMOs. They will also review proposed legislative changes in accordance with the best practices and international standards.
The event is part of the Programme Office’s multi-year activities to promote good environmental governance and to assist the host country in meeting its commitments under the Aarhus Convention.
