The event will be led by the Supreme Court judges, practicing lawyers and journalists from the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan and is a follow-up to seminars held in March, June and September 2016 with an aim to promote professional court journalism in Kazakhstan by establishing a pool of court reporters.
Some 15 journalists from across the country will enhance their professional skills on legal reporting, learn how to make court reporting interesting and readable and establish good co-operation with judicial authorities. Participants will also discuss the role of social networks in covering the court cases, ethical norms during the court coverage, protection of personal data and best international practice on openness of courts and communication between the courts and media.
The course will be complimented by practical exercises.
The seminar is a part of the Office’s long-standing efforts to promote the host country’s judicial reform efforts and increase the efficiency of interaction between the judiciary and the media.
