OSCE Mission to Montenegro trains municipal electoral commissions on how to administer elections

Polling station staff have a vital role in administering elections and ensuring that voters, political parties and candidates have confidence in the election process, which is why the OSCE Mission to Montenegro and the State Election Commission held a training workshop for municipal electoral commissions on how to train polling station staff for the presidential election scheduled for 19 March.

OSCE Mission to Montenegro organizes training course on gender budgeting for 10 ministries

On 27 February, the OSCE Mission to Montenegro delivered advanced training course complimented with mentoring to participants coming from 10 ministries on how to implement the guidelines for gender-responsive budgeting and reporting, developed in 2022 with the Mission’s support.
OSCE Mission to Montenegro supports Police Directorate and its Forensic Centre in fight against serious and organized crime

The OSCE Mission to Montenegro continues to support of the Police Directorate in its fight against cyber and organised crime. On 21 February, Dominique Waag, Head of the Mission, and Zoran Brđanin, Police Director signed an agreement providing equipment and software which will enhance the investigative capacity of the Cybercrime/Intelligence Unit and the Forensic Centre to counter serious and organized crime.
OSCE Mission supports digitization of parliament’s verbatim records

With the support of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, around 50,000 verbatim records of sessions of Parliament of Montenegro from 1991 to 2008 were digitized and are searchable by date, year, convocation, session, political party and speaker. This process was finalized on 8 February with a training course for parliamentary staff on practical use of the software, developed with the Mission’s support in 2022.

In congratulating journalists in Montenegro, noting 23 January commemorates the inaugural publication in 1871, of “Crnogorac” (Montenegrin), the weekly magazine for politics and culture in Cetinje, Dominique Waag, Head of OSCE Mission to Montenegro, said: “Celebrating this day reminds us of the importance of investigative journalism in democracies.”

On 16 December, the OSCE Mission to Montenegro provided support to Women’s Safe House and SOS Podgorica, NGOs that operate shelters for victims of domestic violence. Support to Women’s Safe House will enable it to develop a register of violence cases while support to SOS Podgorica, which includes surveillance equipment, will provide additional security to its residents.
