VIENNA, 13 September – Today, Canada assumed the Chairpersonship of the OSCE’s Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC) until December 2023. During the opening session, Canada’s Minister of National Defence, the Honourable Bill Blair, underlined the importance Canada attaches to the role of the FSC and to dialogue on security across the OSCE region.

The OSCE trained Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) instructors to support Ukraine’s capacity in the detection and disposal of explosives through a three-week training course. The training of EOD instructors from the National Police of Ukraine (NPU) was held at the training site near Bristol, the United Kingdom, from 24 July to 11 August.

A comprehensive online Training of Trainers (ToT) course on biosafety and biosecurity was held by the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre on 27-30 June and 11 July.

The parties to the Agreement on Sub-Regional Arms Control, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia, under the chairmanship of  Serbia, held the XIII Review Conference on the Implementation of the Dayton Article IV Agreement on 8 November 2022.

The impact that war has on the safety and wellbeing of children was at the heart of today’s Forum for Security Co-operation meeting. This topic was introduced for the first time for discussion by the Forum by the Belgian Chair, who will lead the Forum’s discussions until the end of 2022.

On 24 July, the 8-week online course of 2022 OSCE-UNODA Scholarship for Peace and Security training programme on arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation was concluded with 123 graduates [88% female] from 51 OSCE participating States and 8 Partners for Co-operation. Most of the participants
