A high-level side-event held on 5 December on the margins of the OSCE Ministerial Council marked 20 years of the OSCE Action Plan for the Promotion of Gender Equality (GAP). Adopted in 2004, the GAP sets a firm political commitment and objectives to advance gender equality across the Organization and in participating States, as an essential prerequisite for peace, security, and sustainable development across the OSCE region.

VALLETTA, 25 November 2024- Marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the start of the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, OSCE Chair-in-Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta Ian Borg called on participating States to increase efforts and resources to combat all forms of violence experienced by women and girls, including online violence.

On 11 July, the Chair of the Permanent Council, Ambassador Natasha Meli Daudey, presented the White Ribbon Award to seven diplomats and delegation members, honouring their outstanding engagement for the promotion of gender equality. The White Ribbon Award is presented every year to OSCE delegates from participating States and Partners for Co-operation who have shown true dedication to the promotion of gender equality and have used their position to advance these efforts. The Award is given based on nominations received from OSCE delegations.

SKOPJE/VIENNA/WARSAW, 25 November 2023- Launching the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, OSCE leaders called on participating States to step up their efforts to eliminate violence against women and girls, end impunity and support survivors.

Developing strategies for the inclusion of women in formal negotiation processes was the focus of a side event organized by OSCE 2023 Chairpersonship of North Macedonia with the Secretariat's Gender Issues Programme during the Chairpersonship’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Conference in Tetovo on 5 September.

TETOVO, 6 September 2023- Strengthening global partnership and taking collective action to further promote gender equality across the OSCE region was the focus of the first Chairpersonship’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Conference, which took place on 5 and 6 September in Tetovo, North Macedonia.
