On 9 December 2024, the OSCE Programme Office in Astana (the Office) hosted an event to mark the culmination of the first stage of a two-year project aimed at supporting the Tobol-Torgay River Basin Council. The project aims to strengthen the Council's capacity in developing a strategic basin plan for integrated water resource management.

On 6 December 2024, the OSCE Programme Office in Astana presented results of a two-year project dedicated to developing interactive maps and safety passports for Kazakhstan. This initiative, implemented in partnership with the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan and the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction aims to enhance capacities to monitor, model, and ensure early warning for natural disasters, measures to prevent and counter the effects of such, and ensure safe and sustainable communities.

On 26 August, 2024, the OSCE Programme Office in Astana (the Office), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the International Water Assessment Centre (IWAC), held the 3rd meeting of the Inter-Institutional Working Group (IIWG) on tailings safety and the prevention of accidental water pollution in Kazakhstan.

The meeting was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Nur-Sultan (POiN) and the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek (POiB) in close co-operation with the Commission.

Kazakhstan’s part of the working group on environmental protection under the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Chu-Talas Water Commission (Commission) held a meeting on 12 November 2021 in Almaty. The meeting was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Nur-Sultan in co-operation with the Commission and the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan.

The winners of the OSCE-supported green office contest were announced on 22 October 2021 in Nur-Sultan. The contest provided an opportunity for government institutions, private companies, civil society and international organizations to promote sustainable use of resources by focusing on waste reduction and recycling.
