Preventing and Addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Places of Deprivation of Liberty: Launch of the ODIHR publication in Polish
When
Where
The important role of national monitoring bodies and civil society in preventing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in places of deprivation of liberty will be the focus of an event ODIHR is organizing on 7 December 2023 in Warsaw, Poland.
The launch of the ODIHR guide, “Preventing and Addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Places of Deprivation of Liberty”, in the Polish language will be attended by representatives of the Office of the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights and civil society organizations involved in the oversight of places of deprivation of liberty and/or working on the topic of SGBV.
Released in 2019, the ODIHR publication is the first comprehensive policy guidance related to the prevention of SGBV in places of detention. It targets state actors and civil society and aims to improve the understanding of how SGBV manifests itself in places where people are deprived of liberty. It also identifies many of the factors that increase their vulnerability to such forms of violence and aims to contribute to the reduction and eventual elimination of sexual and gender-based violence.
The translation of the publication into Polish follows a topical training ODIHR organized for staff of the Office of the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights in December 2022.
Participation in this event is by invitation only.
