Institutional transformation and gender equality: Training for parliamentary parties in Denmark
When
Where
Organized by
As part of support to democratic institutions in the OSCE region in becoming more gender-sensitive and advancing women’s political participation, ODIHR is organizing a training seminar for six parliamentary political parties in Denmark.
The seminar aims to:
- Raise participants’ awareness about good practices and challenges in integrating a gender perspective into party activities, with a focus on gender-balanced representation, gender-sensitive organisational culture and gender-responsive party policies;
- Facilitate cross-party exchange and peer learning;
- Develop facilitation skills in conducting gender audits of political parties and formulating gender action plans.
The seminar will involve representatives (staff and office holders) from the following parties: The Social Democratic Party, The Left – Denmark’s Liberal Party, The Social Liberal Party, The Conservative People’s Party, The Green Left, and The Red Green Alliance.
Why is it important?
The equal participation of women and men in political affairs is first and foremost a human rights issue, but it has other benefits as well for political parties that make efforts to ensure compliance with international human rights standards and recommendations on gender participation. By diversifying the composition of a political party, it is also possible to widen its support base and reach out to a larger pool of voters and potential candidates. Gender audits enable a political party to identify both the strengths and shortcomings of the party’s approach to gender equality. A gender audit can indicate whether a political party is gender-sensitive and where it can improve. It also provides concrete recommendations to strengthen the party’s commitment to gender equality.
