Women in Justice in North Macedonia and Uzbekistan: Study Visit
When
Where
Organized by
ODIHR is organizing a study trip for women in academies of justice from Uzbekistan to Skopje, North Macedonia. The study trip will expose the participants to the advantages of forming networks internationally and domestically with other women in the justice sector. The participants will become aware of the advantages of having associations of women judges and prosecutors as a tool for increasing gender equality in the justice sector.
Background
A 2019 ODIHR study has found that women, persons from minorities and persons with disabilities are often underrepresented in justice sector institutions in OSCE participating States, including in South Eastern Europe. This is in part attributable to discrimination of applicants from underrepresented groups. ODIHR’s research also shows that persons from underrepresented groups leave careers in the legal field at a greater rate than other persons. The study has also found that there is greater public trust and confidence in justice sectors that are more visibly more diverse.
