Disability Rights Law Moot Court: Launch Event and Call for Applications
When
Where
On 17 March 2022, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Centre for Disability Rights and Policy at the National University of Ireland - Galway will be hosting the inaugural event of the first ODIHR Disability Rights Law Moot Court Competition.
The competition, to be held in spring 2022, is open to students from across the OSCE region. It highlights the importance of disability inclusion and how the rights of persons with disabilities can be protected through litigation.
The inaugural event will provide a platform for students to meet the judges and organizers of the moot court and learn more about ODIHR's work on gender, diversity and justice and disability inclusion.
The event will be held online on the Zoom platform. Interested persons may register by email. Please send name, surname and institution (if applicable) to ola.quarnstrom@odihr.pl. Please log in with the same name as you have registered.
Call for applications
Law students from programmes in OSCE participating States are invited to register as a team to participate in the competition.
The competition is a unique opportunity for law students to deepen their knowledge in the field of disability rights law and develop their research, writing and advocacy skills. Individuals who self-identify as having a disability are especially encouraged to participate.
The competition is conducted entirely in English, therefore, proficiency in spoken and written English is a prerequisite. Deadline for applications is 6 March.
Participants should be enrolled in a law program at undergraduate or postgraduate level in one of the OSCE participating States. There can be only one team per institution.
Doctoral students (PhD and equivalent) are not eligible to participate.
Participants should ensure that they have the approval of the institution at which they are enrolled. Participating teams should include a mentor from their institution. If a team cannot provide a mentor from their institution, one may be provided by the organizers.
Teams consisting of 2-4 students from the same institution can register here.
Practical Details
A first round of the competition will be held in written format. The final round will be held during the week of May 16, 2022, in Warsaw or online, depending on the epidemiological situation. Finalists will have the opportunity to argue before a panel of eminent judges.
The rules of procedure can be found here.
