The purpose of the side event is to provide a forum for reflection on community policing and the valuable role of law enforcement in addressing demand for trafficking in human beings. This online event is jointly organised by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Transnational Threat Department/ Strategic Police Matters Unit (TNTD/SPMU). It is titled “Community Policing and Addressing Demand for Trafficking in Human Beings” and takes part during the 21st Alliance Against Trafficking in Persons Conference.
Objectives
The event will focus on the promotion of a dialogue between law enforcement and communities at large, and those at risk of human trafficking in particular. Exploring promising practices by law enforcement agencies from across the OSCE region, this side event will also seek to identify a short set of key findings and recommendations.
Background
The Alliance Conference is the largest annual OSCE anti-trafficking event that brings together representatives from OSCE delegations, law enforcement and civil society. International experts and survivors of trafficking are represented. The aim is to raise the political profile of the fight against trafficking in human beings, and discuss emerging topics and trends in this area. This year, the conference will put a spotlight on addressing demand as a means of preventing trafficking in human beings.

The event will be moderated by Guy Vinet, Head of TNTD/SPMU, and Tatiana Kotlyarenko, ODIHR Adviser on Anti-Trafficking Issues.
It will be held in English. Russian, Spanish and French interpretation will be provided.
