The purpose of this training is to empower and build the capacities of Roma candidates through learning human rights concepts relating to civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. The training will also build participants’ knowledge of public participation, community engagement activities as well as advocacy.
As part of the training, the selected participants will be supported to develop community action plans aimed at addressing related issues. ODIHR could then support the implementation of these plans, and provide tailored coaching and guidance based on specific needs.
The training is based on interactive learning methods and requires a high level of active participation. The event will be held in Serbian.
Participants
The training is specifically designed for Roma individuals, ideally coming from cities or municipalities where there is a considerable population of Roma. We're looking for women and men who have engaged, to some extent, on aspects related to human rights, methods of mobilization and public participation, and/or received moderate support from civil society organizations are the key targets of this training. As such, ODIHR particularly encourages applications from Roma coming from the following cities or municipalities: Belgrade, Jablanički and Nišavski Districkt (Eastern and South Serbia), Južnobački District (Vojvodina Region), and Mačvanski District (Šumadija and Western Serbia).
While preference will be given primarily to candidates coming from these localities, the call is open for Roma candidates throughout Serbia.
Roma candidates who apply to this training should have good knowledge of the situation at the local level -and the problems affecting those Roma localities. They should be motivated to engage their communities and steer them towards mobilization and cooperation with local authorities.
Participants would ideally have a basic understanding of human rights principles, public participation and advocacy.
We also welcome applications from Roma activists and Roma working in various civil society organizations, as long as they are active at the grassroots level.
Objectives
In the course of the training, participants will develop community action plans aimed at addressing the main priorities identified for each location. They could then follow-up on these plans after the training, in close dialogue and cooperation with local authorities.
Interested Roma individuals are welcome to submit their application by 3 June 2021, 23:59 CET (Warsaw Time) by filling in an online application form, through the following link:
