OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), with support from the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek
OSCE participating States have made commitments to gender equality in general and to equality and non-discrimination in the justice sector in particular. This includes commitments to take specific measures to achieve the goal of gender balance in all judicial and executive bodies and to ensure that judges are properly qualified, trained and selected on a non-discriminatory basis.
An ODIHR study has found that women are often underrepresented in the justice sector throughout the OSCE. ODIHR is organizing a regional event in Central Asia to showcase the advantages of having associations of women judges. The event will feature speeches from international experts as well as local stakeholders.
