ODIHR is organizing the second meeting of the Group of Experts on democratic law-making and public consultations. The online meeting will continue the discussions that have started at the first meeting of the Group of Experts in December 2019, with the aim of developing guidelines on good law-making and public consultations. It will gather 15 experts from across the OSCE region who have various backgrounds - including academics, civil society and the judiciary. They will advise, direct and develop the related guidelines.
The online event will focus on the legislative responses in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the impact they had on the law-making processes throughout the OSCE region. It will further allow experts to discuss the draft outline of the guidelines – for instance by offering recommendations with references to good practices from the OSCE region on democratic law-making and public consultations, data and other information.
ODIHR’s decade-long experience in assessing law-making processes in the OSCE region will feed into the future work of the Groups of Experts and contribute to making democratic institutions and processes more inclusive and accountable.
