The regional conference will serve as a platform for expert discussion and exchange of experiences on the right to a fair trial in civil and commercial disputes. The aim of the conference is to raise awareness about upcoming reform and mainstream rule of law and human rights standards into the expert discussion. Prominent law- and policymakers, as well as judges, prosecutors, lawyers, academics and representatives of international organizations are invited to discuss the current status, priorities and challenges regarding the unification of procedural legislation for civil and commercial disputes in Belarus.
The conference will seek to address a wide range of topics, such as the principles of appeal review and cassation, the development of common procedural rules relating to evidence, the implementation of the principle of adversarial proceedings, procedures for mediation and amicable settlement, as well as the possibility to regulate administrative procedure in the framework of the unified procedural code.
The conference is part of the rule of law component of the ODIHR project Promoting Democratization and Human Rights in Belarus funded by the European Union.
