This event will bring together education policymakers, academics and high-level actors, including Ahmed Shaheed, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief. The aim of the event is to explore effective policy measures government officials can take within the education sector to foster tolerance and dialogue and build resilience among young people towards all forms of exclusionary rhetoric and group-based discrimination and violence, with a focus on anti-Semitism.
The event will include presentations and workshops covering essential concepts and issues, curricula development, using teaching aids, as well as good practices on countering anti-Semitism, intolerance and discrimination, providing ample opportunities for interaction and learning. The event will culminate with group work to draft follow-up activities that can be implemented in each particular country context.
The event will also include a presentation of the joint ODIHR-UNESCO publication, Addressing Anti-Semitism through Education – Guidelines for Policymakers. The Guidelines were published in 2018 as part of ODIHR’s multi-year project, “Turning Words into Action to Address Anti-Semitism”, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
