The goal of the regional seminar is to contribute to improving the access of Roma children to early childhood education opportunities and their transition to quality non-segregated primary education.
The seminar aims to collect solutions and identify good practices that address the educational problems encountered by the Roma children in accessing early childhood education opportunities.
The meeting also aims to provide the OSCE participating States, policymakers and Roma organizations working on education with guiding principles, responses and examples of good practices that could help ensure equal access to equal early childhood education for Roma children.
The seminar will bring together a range of participants working at the national and international levels who possess relevant expertise on the subject, such as representatives of Roma communities (Roma organizations), national and regional policymakers (ministry and municipal authority representatives), teachers and experts in early childhood education. The meeting will provide for a needed combination of both Roma community expertise and educational expertise.
The event is part of ODIHR’s work on implementing the OSCE Action Plan on Improving the Situation of Roma and Sinti within the OSCE Area and its provisions on improving access to education, as well the provisions of the OSCE Ministerial Council Decision 6/2008 on promoting early education for Roma and Sinti children.
