The Roma Leadership Academy “Nicolae Gheorghe” is designed to strengthen participants' knowledge of democratic institutions and OSCE commitments in the field of democratic governance, to facilitate a deeper understanding of ways in which one can contribute to policies addressing the situation of Roma and of skills needed by relevant Roma stakeholders in this regard.
The course is targeted to Roma in elected and appointed office at central, regional and local levels, potential Roma candidates for public office and representatives of Roma civil society involved in advocating for policy change and interested in engaging in political participation. The participants will come from Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine.
The training is based on ODIHR’s Young Policy Advisers Course (PolAd), developed in collaboration with the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) based on the FBA’s Political Adviser’s Handbook. Since 2014, PolAd has benefited more than 300 young public servants from across the OSCE region. ODIHR revised the PolAd training methodology and curricular content to suit the specific audience of the Roma Leadership Academy.
