The NHRI Academy is a flagship annual event of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI). ODIHR and ENNHRI are organizing the 2019 NHRI Academy in Venice, Italy, upon invitation by the Global Campus of Human Rights.
The NHRI Academy is a capacity building event for national human rights institutions in the OSCE region, with the longer-term aim to provide a standing resource for the continuing professional development of staff at NHRIs, and to support professional networking between NHRIs in the OSCE region, and between NHRIs, ODIHR, ENNHRI and other stakeholders and organizations.
The 2019 NHRI Academy aims to provide practical training to senior and mid-level staff from NHRIs across the OSCE region on how to address particular challenges NHRIs face in their work and how to fulfil their role of promoting and protecting human rights more effectively. The programme of this year’s Academy focuses on strengthening the role of NHRIs in implementing economic and social rights. Topics covered include the role of NHRIs in increasing the protection and promotion of economic and social rights through monitoring and targeted outreach activities. Other topics are related to the independence of NHRIs, including the Paris Principles and mainstreaming gender into the work of NHRIs.
