The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is organizing four regional roundtable meetings to discuss the findings of the Mission’s report on the adjudication of family law cases relating to the dissolution of marriage, allocation of custody of children and visitation rights.
The meetings will bring together civil judges and lawyers, as well as representatives of the Kosovo Judicial Institute, Legal Aid Commission, social work centres, UNICEF, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare. They will address the main concerns including the length of court procedures, lack of record keeping, and delayed reconciliation procedures and issuance of opinions on custody by social work centres.
Recommendations on how to address the observed shortcomings will also be incorporated in the Kosovo Judicial Institute’s curricula for training new and sitting judges and prosecutors.
The series of roundtable meetings will being on 17 March in Gjilan/Gnjilane and will be followed by meetings in Pejë/Peć, Prizren and Mitrovicë/Mitrovica on 22, 24 and 29 March respectivley. An event for Prishtinë/Priština region was held on 25 February, when the report was officially launched.
