High Commissioner Vollebaek to focus on inter-ethnic situation in Georgia

On 7-11 April, the HCNM will meet Georgia's leadership to discuss ways in which the High Commissioner could assist the Georgian authorities in promoting social integration in the multi-ethnic regions of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo-Kartli.
Ambassador Vollebaek will also pay an inaugural visit to Abkhazia to meet the de facto authorities and to further develop his initiatives in the field of education. At the centre of his talks will be the situation of ethnic Georgians in Abkhazia's Gali District and projects to strengthen the Abkhaz language while respecting the rights of national minorities.
The High Commissioner will also discuss with official Tbilisi the progress on the implementation of the Law on "Meskhetian Repatriation" and the HCNM's assistance to this process.
