How to enhance national capacities to prosecute cases of trafficking in human beings (THB), while taking into account the need for trafficking victims to be adequately protected and assisted, will be the focus of an OSCE conference that takes place in Helsinki on 10-11 September 2008.
The conference, the theme of which is Successful Prosecution of Human Trafficking - Challenges and Good Practices, brings together experts from countries with significant experience in investigating and prosecuting THB cases, such as judges and prosecutors.
The experts will express their views to representatives of local and national authorities, international and non-governmental organizations, regarding such issues such as victim/witness co-ordination, trans-border co-operation and victim protection, and will also present cases of both sex and labour trafficking.
The conference is organized by the Office of the OSCE Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in co-operation with the Finnish OSCE Chairmanship.
