This roundtable meeting on challenges in - and ways to - improve national legislation in respect to the registration of citizens by place of residence will focus on the issues of ensuring basic human rights such as the freedom of movement and the free choice of a place of residence, in the course of developing a national population-registration system.
Participants representing the legislative body, relevant state agencies, political parties and civil society organisations will discuss introducing human rights protection mechanisms into the efficient management of migration processes in Kazakhstan, and elaborate recommendations on bringing the national legislative framework for population registration in line with international human rights provisions on freedom of movement and residence.
