The aim of the roundtable is to discuss a model for the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) on torture in Kazakhstan and possibilities of broadening public control over places of detention and correction facilities. The discussion will develop a strategy on designating and establishing the NPM and to advocate for greater public and civil society oversight over detention facilities through sharing best practices and facilitating a dialogue among relevant stakeholders.
The event will bring together some 50 participants from governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations, the academic community and international experts from Russia and the United Kingdom.
