An OSCE-supported training seminar for the Shu-Talas Water Basin Council and its regular meeting aims to increase the capacity of the regional water authorities and interested stakeholders on the legal aspects of water management and planning at the basin level. The activity will also facilitate thorough discussions on the privatization matters of water facilities and resources, water purification measures and other issues of concern in the circle of some 20 national water authorities, academia and civil society organizations.
Through increased knowledge and capacity of the national Shu-Talas Water Basin Council, the event will strive to contribute to the transboundary dialogue by involving the representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic under the Bilateral Kazakhstani-Kyrgyz Commission on Interstate Use of Water Facilities on the Shu and Talas Rivers.
The activities are in line with the decision of the Maastricht’s Ministerial Council on the OSCE Strategy Document for the Economic and Environmental Dimension that underlines the importance of water diplomacy from the regional context and public involvement in respective discussion-making. It particular, it helps to attract attention of decision-makers and other stakeholders to the issues of efficient water management in transboundary context and introduce modern technologies at the basin level.
