Roundtable discussion and parliamentary working group meeting on countering and preventing terrorism

Some 40 parliamentarians, high-level representatives of the National Security Committee, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Supreme Court, Ministries of the Interior, Justice, Education and Science, international and national experts, and academics will participate in a half-day roundtable discussion on legislative and institutional measures to prevent and counter violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism.
Participants will analyze the factors underlying violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism and the ways to effectively address this threat. They will discuss amendments to the Draft Law on Introducing Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Countering Extremism and Terrorism.
National and international legal experts, including Anne-Lise Chatelain, Legislative Support Officer from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights will present their legal opinions and recommendations for the draft law based on the international standards and best practices.
The event will be followed by the official presentation of the legal opinion on countering terrorism draft legislation in the Parliament for members of the draft law working group.
The event is part of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana's activities to enhance security, increase accountability, and assist the host country in its efforts to prevent and counter violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism.
