On 10 October, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the OSCE Centre in Astana will hold a consultative roundtable on the Guidelines on Recognition of Religious or Belief Communities the ODIHR has been developing in co-operation with the Venice Commission. These Guidelines cover both international standards and good practices in the area of recognition of religious or belief communities, and set out concrete ways participating States can ensure compliance with OSCE commitments and international standards in this area.
The aim of the meeting is to hear from government representatives, religious and belief communities and civil society actors about challenges religious or belief communities face if they choose to ask for recognition of their legal personality and advice that these actors may have to improve the compliance by participating States with their commitments.
The event will bring together international experts of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR), representatives of state bodies, religious organisations and human rights NGOs.
