After the collapse of the Soviet Union, large amounts of rocket fuel were left on the territories of the former republics. The OSCE is helping to address the security and environmental threat posed by the toxic chemicals and their ageing storage tanks.

The Aarhus Centre - a model for environmental co-operation

Plans are underway to set up Armenia's first regional Aarhus Centre in the province of Syunik. Much of the country's land is mountainous, with several areas that are prone to earthquakes. (OSCE)

OSCE-supported Aarhus Centres aim to raise people's awareness of environmental issues and encourage their participation in decision-making.
