OSCE co-organizes conference on minority protection in Armenia
YEREVAN, 21 August 2001 (OSCE) - The OSCE Office in Yerevan together with the non-governmental organization CIVITAS organizes a conference on the protection of national minorities in Blue Sevan, Armenia, on 30 and 31 August.
The conference, which is entitled "Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities: legal and practical implementation of the Convention in Armenia", will focus on the international standards of the convention and its compliance with domestic legislation, as well as on the practical problems in relation to the preservation of language, culture and religion.
Some 80 participants from the country's National Assembly, Government institutions, non-governmental and international organizations, and a large number of representatives from national minorities will attend the event. The working language at the conference will be Russian.
All media are kindly invited to attend the entire event, which will begin on 30 August at 10:00 hours in Blue Sevan, Sevan. Interested journalists will be provided with transport to the conference location.
