The course:

The Civilian Personnel of Peace-keeping and Peace-building Operations Course, after the general background lectures, is devoted to operational procedures and practice. Many aspects will be tested in practical exercises through the use of advanced role-playing sessions and simulation techniques.

The programme is divided into the following 3 sections:

I. Context
Lectures on:
Meaning and legal framework of peace support operations; Complex emergency operations; Regional peace-keeping operations; Mission life-cycle; Command and control of peace-keeping operations; Civilian and military partnership in PKOs and Human Rights.

II. Activities
Seminars and role-playing sessions on:
Education, promotion and observation of human rights; Election assistance and observation.

III. Personal Profile
Seminars and role-playing sessions on:
Selection, recruitment and legal status of the civilian peace-keeper; Code of conduct and Medical issues.

Target group:

The Course is open to no more than 40 participants.
Applicants must have a university degree in any field or the equivalent of 3 years working experience in relevant fields. They must have a good working knowledge of English, which might be tested at the beginning of the Course.

Scholarships:

A limited number of scholarships are provided in a limited number and amount, depending on the availability of funds from sponsoring organizations.
