The Office in Tajikistan works on all three OSCE security dimensions: the politico-military, the economic and environmental, and the human aspect.
Under the politico-military dimension, the Office’s tasks are to
-
develop democratic political institutions and processes;

foster police reform;
-
help Tajikistan’s government counter terrorism;
-
assist with the fight against violent extremism;
-
strengthen border management and security;
-
improve security of the country’s arms stockpile;
-
assist in mine-clearing efforts; and
-
improve confidence-and security-building measures.
As part of the economic and environmental dimension, the Office focuses on
-
good governance in cross-border trade;
-
promoting economic and social stability in the Rasht Valley, located in eastern Tajikistan;
-
fostering good water resources management, regionally and nationally;
-
improving energy security;
-
supporting the Tajik government in developing and improving its environmental legislation, policy formulation and implementation; and
-
helping the government combat corruption.
Within the human dimension, the Office helps Tajikistan fulfil its OSCE and international human rights and rule of law commitments and facilitates the democratization process. This includes

supporting the promotion, protection and implementation of human rights and fundamental freedoms;

helping the country run elections in line with OSCE commitments;
-
promoting gender equality;
-
helping the development of a free media; and
-
assisting with the fight against human trafficking and domestic violence.
