OSCE completes training for Tajik border law enforcement agencies on phytosanitary and veterinary control systems
DUSHANBE, 26 June 2015 - Twenty-five officers from Tajikistan border enforcement agencies successfully completed the OSCE training on phytosanitary and veterinary control systems at the border checkpoints in Dushanbe today.
The five-day training course was organized by the OSCE Office and involved specialists from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Main Directorate of Border Troops of State Committee for National Security and Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan.
Participants worked on how to implement phytosanitary measures, learned about international standards in this field, about procedures of the veterinary control on the border and requirements for import of animal products. They were also acquainted with international regulations for phytosanitary, import controls and inspection process as well as the rapid alert system for food and feed.
During the graduation ceremony, Ambassador Markus Mueller, Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan said: "The Office in Tajikistan is helping improve the professionalism and skills of Tajik border and security agencies by developing their operational capacity, to help successfully respond to transnational threats that will lead to better national and regional stability.”
The training course was delivered by two international experts on phytosanitary and veterinary control systems from London and Riga and as part of the border management programme in 2015, focused on building national capacity of the Tajik border security and management agencies.
