Ambassador Ralf Breth of Germany took over his assignment as the Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje on 16 May 2011.
Ambassador Breth has served in the German Foreign Office as a career diplomat since 1982. He has substantial regional experience in the Western Balkans. From 2005 to 2008 he was the Head of the German Embassy in Skopje, and he also functioned as the representative of the Presidency of the European Union during the German and Finnish presidencies.
With solid experience in multilateral co-operation and profound knowledge of bilateral and multilateral approaches to strengthen democratic institutions, he has successfully led large teams both in the German Foreign Office and abroad.
Prior to his appointment, Ambassador Breth served as the Head of the Division of International Criminal Law in the German Foreign Office. He has also been the Head of three German Missions (Skopje, Izmir and Sibiu).
Ambassador Breth graduated from the University of Frankfurt/Main with a degree in law and completed the diplomatic academy at the German Foreign Office in Bonn, Germany.
His working languages are English and German. In addition he is fluent in Spanish, French, Italian and Romanian.
