The OSCE Mission to Skopje, in close cooperation with French Embassy in Skopje, is organizing a one week on-site training course for the staff of Regional Centre for Border Affairs (RCBA) East and West.
More than 70% of the borderline of the RCBAs is mountainous and these areas are frequently used by smugglers and sometimes by irregular migrants. French police experts located in Chamonix, who are specialized in mountain environment, will deliver knowledge on map reading, techniques of positioning, orientation, track detection, communication, first aid and rescue in mountainous areas.
The training, as a pilot project, is aimed at further enhancing the skills of police officers in their efforts to tackle more effectively the phenomenon of cross-border criminality, including irregular migration and human trafficking, smuggling of narcotics, proliferation of small arms and light weapons with an ultimate objective of dismantling organized crime networks.
