PODGORICA, 11 November 2005 -- The OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro acknowledged the adoption of the Law on Free Access to Information by the Montenegrin Parliament on 8 of November.

The adoption of the Law on Free Access to Information shows a positive effort of the republic's authorities. The Law will guarantee the public free access to information and will ensure transparency and openness in the work of the institutions and public bodies.

Adoption of the Law does not conclude the process: successful implementation of this Law is crucial and will require a quality public campaign and activities designed to better inform the citizens about their legal rights.

The OSCE Mission, in co-operation with other partners, will continue with its efforts to facilitate the proper implementation of standards set by the Law on Free Access to Information.
