Senior Gender Adviser

Within the context of the OSCE's effort to foster comprehensive security, the objectives of the Senior Gender Adviser are to promote, facilitate, build capacity, support and monitor the incorporation of gender perspectives into all areas of work of the Organization. The goal is to enhance the advancement of women and achieve equal opportunities for women and men.

Specifically, the Senior Gender Adviser

  • provides advice and technical assistance to OSCE staff in the field of gender mainstreaming;
  • promotes the equal opportunity and the participation of women in conflict resolution;
  • gives advice and guidance to the political bodies of the OSCE on these issues,
  • sets standards for achievement;
  • oversees the implementation of the Action Plan and evaluates its progress.

In addition, the Senior Gender Adviser establishes and maintains contacts with international organizations and non-governmental organizations to promote the exchange of information and expertise with regard to gender mainstreaming, represents the OSCE Secretariat at relevant meetings and conferences, and holds discussions with senior government officials to enlist their support of OSCE activities in gender mainstreaming.
