An effective mechanism to achieve sustainable peace in the OSCE region is through the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 to enhance women's active role in conflict prevention, peace building and security processes.
Action Plans and other local mechanisms developed by OSCE participating States to help implement UNSCR 1325 often overlook the practical exercise of including women in peace and security. To ensure a better understanding of what gender mainstreaming means in concrete and practical terms, the OSCE Gender Section and the Institute for Inclusive Security will jointly bring together practitioners on UNSCR 1325 from across the OSCE region for the National Action Plans Academy in Vienna on 15 and 16 September 2016.
Participants will exchange experiences and engage in practical collaboration to develop new strategies and update existing action plans, enhance the contact, discussion and co-operation between government and civil society involved in the implementation of UNSCR 1325, to strengthen awareness of inclusive security and promote constructive discussions of UNSCR 1325 on a national, regional and local level.
