OSCE Programme Office supports public monitoring to enhance quality of delivery of public services in Kyrgyzstan
The Kyrgyzstan-based Centre for Public Policy presented the results of its monitoring of the delivery of ten main public services on 1 December 2017 in Bishkek. The monitoring project, supported by the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, was conducted over a six-month period and aims at strengthening the capacity of local civil society organizations to monitor the delivery of public services and inform the local authorities about problems.
"The quality of the public service provision to the population is one of the priorities of government agencies,” said Kuvanychbek Shadybekov, Head of the Department of Public Administration and Personnel Management of the Prime Minister’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic. “For this reason, the public monitoring of the quality of services becomes extremely important, because it is the public that can really assess and suggest ways to improve work in this area, thereby becoming a valuable partner for government agencies.”
Nana Baramidze, Head of Economic and Environmental Dimension at the OSCE Programme Office said: “By supporting the monitoring of the delivery of public services in Kyrgyzstan, the Office contributed to enhancing capacities of local NGOs and improving standards of public services delivery at the local level.”
The project also aimed at increasing interaction between state agencies and citizens to improve the quality of public and municipal service delivery, and to raise awareness among citizens in this area.
The monitoring project was initiated by the Prime Minister’s Office and conducted by the Centre for Public Policy in seven provinces as well as in the capital and in Osh, with the support of the OSCE Programme Office.
