The OSCE Programme Office in Astana in co-operation with International Center for Journalism MediaNet and Konrad Adenaur Foundation will organize the Eighth Central Asian Internet Development Forum with a focus on The main challenges in the post-truth age and with the following themes for discussion:
- The Internet influence on reality;
- Solving social and other problems by social networks;
- How we can deal with toxic narratives without threatening the principles of freedom of expression;
- Most effective instruments to react against manipulations, falsification, propaganda, xenophobia, hate speech, destructive content, and safety in web;
- The best cases, legislative and other recommendations of international experts.
The forum will gather some 120 independent experts, government officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations, journalists, and lawyers from Central Asia. Experts from the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Russian Federation, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan will present and discuss the challenges and possibilities of the Internet in the region, share their ideas, cases and instruments.
Elena Cherniavska, Senior Advisor, Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, will participate in the Eighth Central Asian Internet Development Forum and speak about the Joint declaration on freedom of expression and “fake news”, disinformation and propaganda and regulation of social networks.
The event is in line with the Office’s activities aimed at promoting media freedom and freedom of expression in line with the OSCE principles and commitments.
