OSCE co-organizes public hearings on the new concept of the draft media law

The OSCE Programme Office in Astana in co-operation with the Soros Foundation Kazakhstan and the International Foundation for Freedom of Speech “Adil Soz” will support a public hearings on the new concept of the draft media law. Some 35 parliamentarians, government officials, journalists and media experts will discuss and analyze the dynamics of development of Kazakhstan's media legislation, most notably related to the new draft media law concept and prepare a list of recommendations for drawing a "road map" for its further improvement in accordance with international standards of freedom of speech. The participants will also discuss international and national practice on state-media relations, legislative regulation of information in the Internet, state financing of media and other issues. The participation of experts from the regions of Kazakhstan will help to ensure a balanced geographic representation at the roundtable and share practical challenges and examples from the ground.
The event is in line with the Office’s activities aimed at promoting media freedom and freedom of expression in line with the OSCE principles and commitments.
