BISHKEK, 23 March 2024- Youth of Kyrgyzstan planted more than 1000 seedlings of Virginia juniper and 555 seedlings of rose hips in the Batken region, thereby launching the traditional Youth Tree Planting campaign across the country.

On 16 November, the Green Economy Forum 2023: Common Goals for Sustainable Development of the Central Asian Region took place in Bishkek. On October 29, 2023, a premiere of the ballet performance “ADAM” (Human) took place in the city of Naryn, Kyrgyzstan. Reflecting upon the crucial problems of ecology and climate change, this performance was initiated by the Students of Kyrgyzstan for Green Economy NGO, the initiative group ARTIS, and the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet Theater named after A. Maldybaev, with the support of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek.

On 12 July 2022, students and young professionals from various academic disciplines and sectors took part in a training on Climate Change and Security in Central Asia in Bishkek. The Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA) and the Berlin-based think tank adelphi organized the event in partnership with the OSCE Academy and the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek.

Mailuu-Suu is a small town located in the Jalal-Abad province, Kyrgyzstan, with a population of 22 thousand people. During the Soviet years, the town used to be a regional centre for mining uranium ore – a large industry that came to a halt with the breakup of the Soviet Union in the early 1990’s. Mailuu-Suu’s industrial past left multiple uranium tailings pits that partially have been rehabilitated and recultivated; yet, there still remain tailings pits that pose threat to the local population’s and ecosystem’s health.
