OSCE ANNUAL REPORT 2012

The 2012 Annual Report of the OSCE Secretary General provides an overview of the activities of the OSCE’s field operations, Institutions, Secretariat units and Parliamentary Assembly, as well as the 2012 Irish Chairmanship and the Organization’s work with the Asian and Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation and international and regional organizations.

Every day the OSCE tackles regional security challenges

Through our comprehensive approach we address a range of concerns, including arms control, confidence- and security-building measures, human rights, national minorities, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism and economic and environmental activities.

Here are just a few ways we made our region safer in 2012:

2012 Annual Report Inforgraphic: 20 years Forum for Security and Co-operation - 15 million euros on 40 projects to help states solve problems with small arms, light weapons and conventional ammunition; Destroyed 110 tonnes of napalm, 10,023 tonnes of toxic Rocket fuel, 650 bombs and 22,600 tonnes of unstable or surplus ammunition; Cleared 231 hectares of land from Land mines; Strengthened Cross-Border trade and security by training 1809 border officials; Helped dozens of communities in 5 countries with water management and conflict resolution; 48 States adopted a good governance declaration; Supported more than 800 entrepreneurs to start their own businesses and generate jobs; Encouraged more than 15,000 women in eight countries to participate in political and public life; Observed 14 elections by monitors from 47 different countries; Intervened 150 times on behalf of journalists in 38 participating States; Trained 3997 people vulnerable to human trafficking in life skills; Built a network to empower women from migrant, minority, Roma and Sinti communities
