Following an invitation to observe the 27 September parliamentary elections, and further to the findings of a needs assessment nission, ODIHR deployed election assessment mission to Germany on 14 September.
Led by Ambassador Gérard Stoudmann of Switzerland, the mission included 15 experts from nine OSCE participating States.
According to the mission's final report: "The 2009 federal parliamentary elections confirmed a solid experience in conducting democratic elections in Germany. They demonstrated an open, pluralistic and competitive process, founded on the respect for fundamental freedoms, equitable conditions for all contestants, the efficiency and professionalism of the election administration as well as a high level of public confidence in the overall integrity of the electoral process."
