OSCE/ODIHR Director visits Baku following critical final assessment of election process

WARSAW, 18 November 2003 - The Director of the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Ambassador Christian Strohal, will visit Azerbaijan on 20 November to present the final report of the Election Observation Mission.

The report, published 13 November, concludes that the presidential election on 15 October failed to meet international standards and includes 25 recommendations for addressing the election violations witnessed by the OSCE/ODIHR.

Ambassador Strohal intends to discuss those recommendations with the Azeri authorities and representatives of the opposition in a series of meetings on Thursday, 20 November.
