OSCE/ODIHR-led War Crimes Justice Project to organize meeting for judges from the ICTY and the region

PODGORICA, 24 June 2011 – A regional meeting bringing together judges dealing with war crimes cases from South-Eastern European countries and ICTY will be held on Monday, 27 June in Bečići, Montenegro.

Judge Fausto Pocar and Judge Bakone Justice Moloto from the ICTY will join the meeting to share with their counterparts from the region their experiences in adjudicating war crimes cases.The meeting is organised as part of the War Crimes Justice Project (WCJP), in co-operation with the Supreme Court of Montenegro.

Journalists are invited to cover the opening session, set to start at 9:30, on Monday June 27, 2011 at Hotel Queen of Montenegro, Narodnog fronta bb, Bečići/Budva.

Speakers at the opening session include Supreme Court President Judge Vesna Medenica; Ambassador Leopold Maurer, Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro; Ambassador Sarunas Adomavicius, Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, and Robert Adams, Regional Co-ordinator of the War Crimes Justice Project.

The War Crimes Justice Project is a 4-million euro regional project funded by the European Union and carried out by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), in partnership with the ICTY, the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), and OSCE field operations. The WCJP aims to enhance the capacity of legal professionals in the region to handle complex war crimes cases.
